2025 Station Renovations

You may have noticed quite a bit of construction activity at our Sardinia Station #2 recently. Some major capital upgrades are underway to repair and modernize our buildings.
This spring, we contracted with Hopkins Building Contractors to install new siding on our meeting hall. The existing block wall was aging and needed extensive repointing of the grout joints. Instead, insulation board, metal siding and parapet flashing was installed overtop of the block to keep the hall weather tight. Two overhead doors were replaced and the remaining steel doors are being refurbished.
On Monday, House of Steel started construction of an addition to our truck garage. The addition will allow us to make critical changes to our station layout for the purpose of cancer prevention. A new gear room will be constructed within the addition to store firefighters' turnout gear away from diesel exhaust exposure. Our laundry room will also be expanded to allow for additional turnout gear cleaning equipment to be installed. HVAC and utility updates to the existing truck garage will also be addressed as part of this project.
These upgrades are a significant investment of funds, but have been derived from years of careful facility planning. Both of the projects are purposeful, in that they address long overdue repairs and support our investment in the health and safety of our members. We hope to exhibit our upgrades for the community at our Fall Tool Raffle on September 7th!
