Firefighters Battle Mulch Fire
By Second Assistant Chief Roblee
Tuesday October 7, 2025
On Monday 10/6/2025 at 1530 hours, the Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Company along with an engine from the Holland Fire Department were dispatched to an unknown type fire on Olean Road. Upon arrival, Chief Kenyon found a large mulch pile well involved in fire. Sardinia Engine 1 arrived and began fire attack while Sardinia Engines 2 and 4 provided tank water to Engine 1. Chief Kenyon requested tankers and additional manpower from multiple mutual aid departments.
Firefighting efforts continued for approximately 3 hours while employees from the business used heavy equipment to spread the mulch pile out. Crews utilized 2 water sources and 7 tankers to feed the 4 hand lines that were in operation. Fire crews rotated in and out frequently due to the rare warm October temperatures. Personnel from Mercy EMS and Erie County EMS provided rehab via the Erie County Firefighter Rehab Trailer.
The Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Company would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their efforts today: Holland Fire Department, South Wales Fire Company, Yorkshire Fire Department, Delevan Fire Department, Arcade Fire Department, Colden Fire Department, East Concord Fire Department, Springville Fire Department and Strykersville Fire Company. Also assisting on scene was Mercy Flight EMS, Erie County EMS and Erie County Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Last but certainly not least, a huge THANK YOU to the dispatchers at East Aurora Fire Control for their quick and professional work getting resources dispatched for this incident!
