Certified First Responder Course at Chaffee-Sardinia
By Second Assistant Chief Roblee
Monday August 4, 2025
The Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Company will be hosting a Certified First Responder (CFR) course starting in September, sponsored by Erie County EMS. CFR is one of the four prehospital emergency medical certifications in NYS, and it is designed for non-transporting first responders. CFRs can provide basic first aid such as bleeding control techniques, CPR, basic airway management techniques, etc.
After successfully completing the course, students will take a NYS CFR certification exam which contains a skills test and a written examination. Students will need to pass each skill station and obtain a score over 70% on the written examination to become a NYS certified CFR.
Registration and additional information about the course can be found on the Erie County EMS webpage.
