We are proud to announce that firefighter Brody Phelps has successfully completed the NYS Firefighter 1 course at the Wyoming County Fire Training Center. This achievement reflects months of dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving our community. Our fire company relies on the dedication of members like Brody, who willingly give their time to train and respond to calls to service.
The 129 hour Firefighter 1 series consists of two parts: Basic Exterior Firefighter Operations and Interior Firefighter Operations. The first section focuses on essential firefighting skills such as hose line deployment, ladder operations, water supply operations, and fire behavior. Upon completing this section, firefighters are qualified to perform fire suppression tasks outside of a structure.
Interior Firefighter Operations includes live-fire training, focusing on interior fire suppression, victim rescue, and ventilation techniques. This portion of the training qualifies firefighters to enter burning buildings and operate in hazardous environments. Interior qualified firefighters are critical to our community, and necessary for our fire company to provide high-quality service.
In addition to the NYS FF1 course, Brody has also completed the in-house qualifications to operate as an interior firefighter. In-house qualification training includes a Task Oriented Air Consumption (TOAC) evolution, rope bailout in-service training and familiarization with our SCBA and firefighting equipment.
We congratulate and thank Brody for this important accomplishment. His dedication strengthens our fire company and enhances the safety of our entire community. Please join us in recognizing this achievement and thanking Brody for his commitment to our town!
