Busy Start to September

It has been a busy few days for us, training and responding to incidents!

On Monday 8/31, members participated in a search and rescue drill at the Erie County forest.  The drill required members to search for the victim while being provided minimal information about their location.  Once located, situational awareness and EMS skills were also put to the test when crews found the victim had come in contact with live power lines.  The drill provided great radio communications and incident command practice to all members.

On Wednesday 9/2, Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Allen Road.  Chief Kenyon arrived on scene and found one vehicle with major damage and the passenger entrapped.  Live power lines were also down on the vehicle, delaying rescue efforts until the power was disconnected.  Crews from Sardinia, East Concord Fire Department, Springville Volunteer Fire Company and Mercy Flight worked together to provide patient care and extrication.  Extrication efforts were extremely difficult due to the damage caused by striking a tree.  The victim was transported by Mercy Flight to ECMC.  Yorkshire Fire Department provided coverage for the Town of Sardinia during the incident.  Thank you to all assisting agencies!

Wednesday evening, rounds of severe weather passed through the region, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts nearing 70mph.  Chaffee-Sardinia crews responded to two trees down on the west end of the town, and cleared smaller limbs throughout the town.

On Thursday 9/3, Chaffee-Sardinia was dispatched as mutual aid to Springville Fire Dept for a rope rescue incident at Scoby Dam park.  Crews worked alongside Springville Volunteer Fire Company, Mortons Corners Volunteer Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Gowanda rope rescue team and Erie County Sheriff's SWAT to rescue the victim from an embankment.
